Alameda Park is one of Santa Barbara’s oldest parks. It takes up two blocks and has unique and rare trees throughout. This is a great place to stop for a break during your visit to Santa Barbara as it has an 8,000 square-foot playground called “Kids World” that consists of a wood castle, swings, slides and more. Though not entirely enclosed, the playground is fenced in with an open gate, making it easier to keep track of children.
The playground is great for all ages. There is smaller play equipment for younger children and the older kids enjoy exploring the maze of the castle. For teens and adults who are out for some exercise on a nice summer day, a large grass area is perfect for some pickup sports games, frisbee, or park recreation games.
Across the street from Kids World, a pond with turtles and ducks is the perfect companion for a blanket, chair, picnic lunch and a good book.
The park is located along Santa Barbara Street, only a couple of blocks from State Street, making it an easy jaunt from shopping downtown. There is free parking located on the street around the park. The park is open year round and with the mild Central Coast weather, it’s a great place to visit any time of year.
You could make a quick stop to run off the wiggles or spend a few hours picnicking, playing or just relaxing.
