Got a day or an afternoon you’d like to spend on the coast? Ventura Pier and Promenade has a low-key vibe and easy-going tempo. An expanse of sandy beach invites a blanket for relaxation or build a sandcastle or cairn. For the kids, there are play structures right on the beach, just to the right of the pier.
On the historic Ventura Pier — built in 1872 — there are a variety of food options. The pier is a favorite place for fishing, picnics, sunset walks and scenic views of Ventura County’s coastline and the Channel Islands.
On the pier, fishing is allowed and no fishing license is required. Just bring your own fishing gear. Before heading out onto the pier, grab a plate of fish tacos from Beach House Tacos.
After walking along the wooden pier, head north on the walking/biking path known as the promenade. Bikes can be rented on the south side of the pier. The scenic path heads north along the coast allowing for beach access, exercise and benches along the way. It’s a great way to take in the sights and fresh sea air while getting in some exercise and enjoying the mild weather of the Central Coast with fewer crowds than most beaches in the area.
There is paid parking available at the pier but there are numerous spots around town that offer free parking and are within walking distance.
